Very special wand respectfully hand crafted from 4,500 year-old bog oak excavated from beneath the wetlands of the Somerset Levels encompassing the iconic town of Glastonbury.
I have the privilege of owning a small quantity of this ancient organic material for over ten years, content to just keep it until, perhaps, I might be inspired to craft some of it into an object befitting of its ancient status.
Each wand I have crafted is totally unique, and because of the age of the wood, it may show some flaws in it, namely hairline cracks, slightly raised grain nibs and general stresses associated with wood that has been underwater for thousands of years and gently re-introduced to oxygen again while very slowly being air-dried. Although solid enough, it would be wise not to subject it to unnecessary rough treatment.
An oak wand has very powerful, strong and protective attributes. Ancient Druids revered oak, and referred to it as 'Wizzard Wood'.
The wands I craft are tactile and have good balance in the hand. They are intuitively worked with respect for the wood and its own unique properties. Once formed they are treated with natural oil and pure beeswax, then encased in a velvet drawstring bag, ready to be bonded with their new owner.
